SCOURS THE LINE

Hydro Jetting in Sun City, AZ

Snaking pokes a hole through a clog; hydro jetting scrubs the whole pipe wall back toward the diameter it started with.

Hydro jetting clears a drain differently from a cable. Instead of punching a hole through a blockage, it sends high pressure water down the line to scour grease, scale and buildup off the entire pipe wall. On an older Sun City line that keeps backing up, that difference is the difference between a fix and a temporary patch.

It is the right tool for greasy kitchen lines and scaled older drains, and the wrong tool for a pipe too fragile to take the pressure, which is a distinction we make before we start.

When jetting beats snaking

A cable is perfect for a discrete clog, a wad of roots or a toy in a toilet. But when a line backs up again a few weeks after every cabling, the problem is not a single clog, it is the pipe closing up with grease and mineral scale along its length. A cable clears a channel through that; jetting removes the buildup itself.

In Sun City kitchens especially, years of grease combined with hard water scale coat the drain until its working diameter is a fraction of the original. Jetting restores much of that, which is why a jetted line stays clear far longer than a snaked one.

Reading the line first

We do not jet blind on an old home. Because many original drains here are cast iron, and cast iron of that age is at the end of its service life, a line that is corroded thin needs a camera look before high pressure water goes down it. That way we are clearing a sound pipe, not blowing out a section that was already failing. A sewer camera inspection tells us whether the line can take jetting.

If the camera shows a pipe too far gone for jetting to be safe, we say so, and the honest next step is a repair rather than forcing a cleaning the pipe cannot survive.

What jetting is good for here

Kitchen branch lines heavy with grease, main lines scaled down with age, and drains that keep returning after every snaking are the strong cases for jetting. It is also the better prep before a camera inspection when a line is too dirty to see through.

For a straightforward single clog, cabling is quicker and cheaper, and we will use it rather than sell you a jetting you do not need. The method should match the drain, which is the same principle behind our drain cleaning work.

Questions about hydro jetting in Sun City

What is the difference between hydro jetting and snaking?

Snaking runs a cable to clear a channel through a blockage. Hydro jetting uses high pressure water to scour grease and scale off the whole pipe wall, restoring more of the line's real diameter. Jetting lasts much longer on a greasy or scaled line.

Is hydro jetting safe for old cast iron pipes?

Only after a camera check. On an older Sun City home, we scope the line first to confirm the pipe is sound enough to take the pressure. If it is corroded thin, we recommend repair instead of forcing a jetting the pipe cannot survive.

My drain keeps clogging after snaking. Will jetting help?

Very likely. Repeat backups after cabling usually mean the pipe is greasing and scaling closed, not that you keep getting unlucky clogs. Jetting removes that buildup rather than just poking through it.

Do I always need jetting, or is snaking enough?

For a single clog, snaking is quicker and cheaper and we will use it. Jetting is for lines coated with grease and scale that keep coming back. We match the method to the drain.
